'In Almere is alles nieuw; daar is geen replica uit de Gouden Eeuw te vinden. Het heeft zijn korte geschiedenis, die meer is dan charme, en wie er goed kijkt zal het geen moeite kosten te zien dat de nieuwe stad en het nieuwe land ook mooi zijn, weergaloos.'

'Everything in Almere is new; there are no replica's from the Golden Age to be found here. It has a short history which is more than charm , and for those who observe carefully it will not be difficult to see that the new town and new land have an unparalleled beauty of their own.'

Jugendstil - Art Nouveau

8 March: International Women's Day

I had a long story about this day on this blog last year on the 8th march,
you can still take a look there!

Jugendstil/Art Nouveau

In Steenwijk you find the villa Rams Woerthe,  designed by A.L. van Gendt who is well-known as the architect of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. It has been build in Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) style and was finished in 1899.

In the interior are monumental jugendstil – agrarian-
wall paintings of Cor Breman.

In the entrance and staircase are the stained-glass windows of Adolf le Comte.

Behind the villa is a 20 hectare great parc in English landscape style
to a design of Hendrik Copijn.

I went to Steenwijk because of the exhibition of Hildo Krop,
who is born in this place.
He is a prolific Dutch sculptor and furniture designer,
widely known as the city sculptor of Amsterdam,
where his work is well-represented.
I will show the pictures this weekend.
